Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 18, 2026
Shelley Skelton Psychological Services Inc. (“Shelley Skelton Psychological Services,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you visit smskelton.com, contact us, book a consultation, or otherwise interact with our website and online advertising.
This website is intended for general information and initial inquiries. It is not a crisis service, and the website contact form is not intended for urgent or highly sensitive clinical information.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
We may collect information you choose to provide, including:
- your first and last name;
- your email address and telephone number;
- the content of an inquiry or message;
- your communication preferences;
- information needed to respond to a consultation request or determine whether our services may be appropriate for you.
Please limit the information you include in a general website inquiry. Do not use the website or contact form to send urgent, detailed, or highly sensitive clinical information.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the website, we and our service providers may automatically collect limited technical and usage information, such as:
- your Internet Protocol (IP) address;
- browser, device, and operating-system information;
- pages viewed and links selected;
- the date and time of your visit;
- the website, search, or advertisement that referred you to us; and
- interactions used to measure website and advertising performance.
This information may be collected through cookies, tags, pixels, local storage, and similar technologies.
2. How we use personal information
We may use personal information to:
- respond to questions and consultation requests;
- communicate with you about services you have asked about;
- schedule or coordinate an appointment;
- operate, secure, maintain, and improve the website;
- understand how visitors find and use the website;
- measure the effectiveness of our Google Ads campaigns;
- prevent fraud, misuse, or security incidents;
- meet legal, regulatory, insurance, and professional obligations; and
- carry out other purposes that we explain when the information is collected or that you otherwise authorize.
We limit collection, use, and disclosure to purposes that are reasonable and appropriate in the circumstances.
We do not currently use website inquiry information for newsletter marketing or store it in a customer relationship management (CRM) system.
3. Google Ads, call tracking, cookies, and conversion measurement
We use Google Ads to help people searching for therapy and psychological services find our website. We use conversion measurement and Google Tag Manager to understand whether an advertisement leads to an action such as visiting a page, submitting an inquiry, or placing a telephone call.
For calls generated through advertising, call-conversion tracking may process limited call information such as the advertisement or campaign associated with the call, the date and time, call duration, and whether the call connected. Calls are not recorded.
We do not currently use remarketing to advertise to people based on a previous visit to this website. If this practice changes, we will update this policy and our consent controls as appropriate.
Google and related technologies may use cookies or similar identifiers to process information about your browser, device, interaction with an advertisement, and activity on this website. Google may use this information to provide and measure advertising services, prevent fraud, and improve its services in accordance with its own policies.
You can manage or disable non-essential cookies through the cookie settings available on this website, where provided, and through your browser settings. You can also manage how Google uses information for advertising through My Ad Center and learn more about how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services.
Blocking cookies may affect some website features and may make advertising measurement less accurate.
4. Consent
We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent or as otherwise permitted or required by law. The form of consent may vary depending on the sensitivity of the information and the circumstances.
You may withdraw your consent to optional uses of your information at any time, subject to legal, professional, or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. You may also change your cookie preferences using the website’s cookie controls, where available. Withdrawal of consent does not affect processing that has already lawfully occurred.
5. When we share information
We do not sell or rent personal information.
We may share limited personal information with service providers that help us operate and host the website, process contact forms, deliver email, maintain security, or measure advertising performance. These providers may include the independent supplier that hosts and supports the website, email and information-technology providers, call-conversion tracking providers, and Google for advertising and conversion measurement.
The website does not currently connect inquiries to a CRM, newsletter platform, or online scheduling application such as Jane.
Service providers are permitted to handle information only for the services they provide to us, subject to their contractual commitments and applicable law.
We may also disclose information:
- when required or authorized by law;
- to protect the rights, safety, or security of an individual, our practice, or the public;
- in connection with a legal claim, investigation, or regulatory matter; or
- as part of a business transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
6. Information processed outside Canada
Some service providers may process or store information outside Alberta or Canada. When information is processed in another jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to courts, law-enforcement agencies, or other authorities in accordance with those laws.
We use reasonable measures designed to protect personal information handled by our service providers.
7. Safeguards
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information in our custody or control. These measures are designed to reduce the risk of loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
No website, email, or Internet transmission is completely secure. Please use discretion when deciding what information to send through a general contact form or by email.
8. Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy and to meet legal, regulatory, insurance, security, and professional record-keeping requirements. When information is no longer required, we securely delete, destroy, or anonymize it, as appropriate.
9. Accessing or correcting your information
Subject to applicable law, you may ask to access personal information we hold about you or request that inaccurate information be corrected. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and legal exceptions may apply.
You may also ask a question, withdraw consent where applicable, or raise a concern about our privacy practices by contacting us using the information below.
10. Clinical and health information
Information collected when you become a client, including clinical records and individually identifying health information, is handled under separate consent, confidentiality, record-management, and professional practices. Those practices may be governed by Alberta privacy law and the standards of applicable professional regulators.
This website policy does not replace any clinical consent form, service agreement, or notice provided to clients.
11. Children’s information
This website is directed to adults seeking information for themselves, a child, or a family member. We do not knowingly use children’s personal information for interest-based advertising. A parent, guardian, or authorized adult should make initial inquiries on behalf of a minor unless other arrangements have been established directly with the practice.
12. External links
The website may link to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third parties. Please review their privacy information before providing personal information.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices, services, technology, or legal obligations. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes may also be communicated in another appropriate way.
