About Shelley Skelton Psychological Services

I spend most of my days listening—really listening.

But since you’re here, I’d like to share a little about myself too.

I grew up in Nova Scotia, and I still head back every summer to reconnect with the ocean, fresh seafood, and family. While Calgary is now home, I’ve studied across the country—from Dalhousie and McGill to Simon Fraser, Athabasca, and Walden. I’ve always been curious about how people grow, heal, and make sense of their world.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent over ten years in classrooms, teaching students from elementary through high school. That time gave me a deep appreciation for how kids and teens learn, struggle, and thrive—and those lessons still shape how I work with clients and offer psychological services today.

I’ve worked in non-profits, schools, and private practice, providing psychological services to individuals facing a wide range of challenges. Much of my work focuses on helping people navigate anxiety or the lasting effects of trauma—especially when it’s interfering with everyday life.

These days, my time is split between my private practice, teaching counselling students at Athabasca University, and staying connected to the field through ongoing research (I recently completed a PhD in Developmental Psychology). Teaching keeps me grounded in the basics and inspired by what’s next.

If you’re looking for someone to talk to—someone who listens, asks questions, and walks alongside you—I’d be glad to connect.
