EMDR Therapy in Calgary – Support for Trauma, Anxiety, and Depression

When past experiences continue to affect how you think, feel, and respond, healing can feel out of reach.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy offers a way to move through those stuck places—so you can begin to live with more calm, clarity, and freedom.
EMDR is a well-researched, evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals process and heal from trauma. It’s especially effective for those who experience anxiety, panic attacks, recurring relationship patterns, or overwhelming stress that doesn’t seem to make sense in the present moment.

Many clients come to therapy unsure if they’ve experienced “trauma.” Through EMDR, they begin to uncover the ways earlier experiences—sometimes big, sometimes subtle—are still influencing how they think, react, or feel.

Once we reprocess those memories, symptoms often begin to shift. Anxiety softens. Triggers lose their intensity. You start to feel like yourself again.

How EMDR Works

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (often through eye movements or tapping) to help the brain reprocess memories in a way that is no longer distressing.

You remain entirely in control and aware during the process—EMDR is not hypnosis. It’s a structured, collaborative approach that supports your nervous system in moving old pain through to resolution.

Who EMDR Can Help

  • Adults dealing with anxiety, panic, or chronic stress
  • Individuals recovering from car accidents or injuries
  • People with childhood trauma, neglect, or emotional wounds
  • Anyone feeling “stuck” in unhelpful patterns or emotional responses

You May Still Have Questions About EMDR Therapy

Is EMDR therapy painful or dangerous?
No. EMDR isn’t painful or dangerous. Sometimes emotions can come up as we work through difficult memories, but you won’t be pushed faster than your nervous system can handle. We’ll go at a pace that feels safe, and I’ll make sure you have grounding tools to manage any discomfort.

How long does EMDR therapy take?
That depends on what you’re coming in for, and how complex the experiences have been. Some people notice meaningful shifts in a few sessions, while others need more time, especially when trauma has been ongoing or layered. We’ll map out a plan together and check in regularly so you always know what we’re working toward.

Is EMDR therapy covered by insurance?
Many extended health benefits plans cover psychotherapy with a registered psychologist, but coverage varies by provider and plan. I recommend checking your benefits to confirm your coverage and any requirements (like a referral or session limits). If you need a receipt for reimbursement, I can provide that.

Do I need to talk about my trauma in detail?
Not necessarily. EMDR doesn’t require you to retell everything or share graphic details. You’ll stay in control of what you share, and we’ll focus on what your mind and body are holding onto—without making you relive the experience in session.

Ready to Begin?
You don’t have to do this alone. I’m here to support you as you process what’s been weighing you down, reconnect with your body, and move forward in a way that feels steady, supported, and right for you.
